About the Concert

In February, I acted as an Associate Director for 54 Sings Alice in Wonderland. The concert adaption by Jared Gray featured musical direction by Kevin David Thomas (Broadway: A Little Night Music, Les Miserables) and directed by Robbie Rozelle.

“The energy of a mad tea party infused every audience member to the point of jovial proclamation, applause, and even heckling, as the show progressed. … I found myself touched by the message that any little girl can grow up to be a queen. There will be wacky detours and unbelievable triumphs in life, but to persevere with presence, openness, and maybe a little song-and-dance is to live a rich life of growth and wonder. Three cheers for 54 Sings Alice in Wonderland for celebrating the weird and wonderful!” — Curiouser and Curiouser: 54 Sings Alice in Wonderland

The 1985 made-for-television musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass is a special for the ages. The classic tale of a girl named Alice who follows a white rabbit down a hole into Wonderland, the incredibly imaginative Steve Allen (creator of The Tonight Show) score had never been performed live. Featuring an all-star cast of Broadway’s zaniest actors, Feinstein’s/54 Below revisited the songs of this musical touchstone for one performance only.

Starring Broadway’s zaniest actors, including Todd Buonopane (Broadway: Cinderella25th Annual…Spelling Bee, TV: 30 Rock), Dana Costello (Broadway: Finding NeverlandJekyll & Hyde, Feinstein’s/54 Below: 54 Sings Jane Eyre), Nathan Lee Graham (Broadway: Priscilla Queen of the DesertThe Wild Party, Off-Broadway: The View UpStairs), Amy Jo Jackson (Broadway: Kinky Boots), Amanda Kuchinski (Podcast: “Squirrel Friends Cocktail Hour”), Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Broadway: ChicagoWomen on the Verge…, Off-Broadway: Sweet Charity), Rob Maitner (Off-Broadway: AsymmetricUrinetown), Alexis Michelle (TV: RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9), Andrew Nielson (Feinstein’s/54 Below: 54 Sings Jane Eyre), Carly Ozard (“Midler on the Roof), Doug Plaut (TV: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Robert W.
